MOS 21E Construction Equipment Operator Duty Descriptions

In 2004, the Engineer MOS changed from CMF 12 to CMF 21. In 2009, the Engineer MOS changed again, from CMF 21 to CMF 12.

Heavy Equipment Operator Team Leader
Advises the Squad Leader on all section equipment and heavy construction equipment; responsible for tracking of service, deadline; ensures maintenance reports are reported and analyzed; responsible for the health, welfare, training, discipline, and morale of 1 NCO and 8 Soldiers assigned to the Support Platoon Heavy Equipment Operator section; interacts with the unit's maintenance shop to maintain section equipment in excess of $2 million in support of combat readiness.


Horizontal Construction Supervisor
Supervises engineer projects and provides instruction for construction equipment; interprets grade stake information; oversees clearing, grubbing, stripping, excavating, backfilling, stockpiling, hauling, construction of ditches and other heavy equipment operations; performs route reconnaissance; provides individual and collective training; accountable for individual and unit equipment and property; responsible for the health, welfare and safety of 10 Soldiers.


Construction Platoon Sergeant
Supervises and schedules personnel and projects; oversees assignment priorities and project progress; obtains necessary supplies and materiel; ensures equipment PMCS performance; coordinates and prioritizes equipment maintenance; maintains accountability of individual and unit equipment; provides training on construction equipment use and operation; analyzes risk and ensures site safety and security; ensures the health, welfare and professional development of 26 Soldiers.


Heavy Vehicle Operator
Transports heavy equipment such as scrapers, dozers, backhoe loaders, skid steer, and hydraulic excavators; clears, grubs, strips, excavates, backfills, ditches, stockpiles and pushes scraper with tractor crawler; cuts and spreads fill material with scraper; excavates, stockpiles, backfills, and loads with loader; responsible for health, welfare and safety of 5 Soldiers; maintains accountability for individual and unit equipment; provides individual and collective training.


Concrete Operations Supervisor
Operations NCO of an EN Concrete Section of 12 Soldiers; oversees planning, materials procurement, and environmental and civil approval of concrete construction projects; maintains the Yearly Training Calendar, Yearly Training Brief, and METL tasks; validates training schedules and unit training; maintains training records and prepares Soldiers for MOS training, NCOES/OES, and functional schools; responsible for the welfare and physical fitness of 12 Soldiers.


Asphalt Equipment Operator
Erects and operates asphalt plant for the production of hot mix asphalt; sets up and operates asphalt laydown equipment to meet desired asphalt specifications; responsible for supervising or operating all equipment used in concrete and asphalt production; responsible for asphalt specifications.


Concrete/Asphalt Equipment Operator
Prepares and places concrete with the M5 Concrete Mobile Mixer Module; loads the M5 Concrete Mobile Mixer Module with water, Portland cement, fine aggregate, and coarse aggregate; adjust controls to obtain the required mix proportions and slump at the project site; performs site preparation and concrete form construction; finishes concrete; conducts concrete and engineer equipment maintenance.
