Drove POV to the Range

PART II - BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Purpose of Counseling

Yesterday you drove your POV to a scheduled range activity. Although you were verbally counseled yesterday, this written counseling is to formally document that counseling.

PART III - SUMMARY OF COUNSELING
Complete this section during or immediately subsequent to counseling.

Key Points of Discussion:

Army Regulation 385-63, Range Safety

You drove your POV to the range. Driving a POV to the range is not authorized. For obvious reasons, the range is one of the most dangerous places where we train and operate. Because of the danger, every aspect of activity at the range must be planned and controlled.

The Range NCO and other cadre may drive their POVs to the range but their actions have been preapproved and have been taken into account in the overall planning. Everyone else must use whatever transportation has been arranged (Deuce and a half, van, bus, etc).

Every facet of activity at the range has been carefully planned in advance by senior NCOs based on their experience and the accumulated knowledge of generations of combat arms specialists. Although qualifying is the main goal of attending the range, safety is equally as important. The range NCO has thoroughly choreographed the timing and method of entry and exit of personnel, the issue of ammo, the instruction, and the actions of everyone on the range at all times to ensure safety. Any deviation from that plan requires immediate attention by the Range NCO, reduces range oversight in other areas, and jeopardizes safety for everyone at the range.

I know you were not specifically instructed not to drive your POV to the range and I accept responsibility for that lack of supervison. Your actions and my lack of supervision and attention to detail risked the safety and the lives of everyone at the range.

This action constitutes a formal counseling session concerning the inappropriate behavior described above. You will be given a reasonable period of time to correct these deficiencies and to rehabilitate yourself into a productive satisfactory Soldier. Your conduct will be monitored during this time and you will be given an opportunity to prove yourself. If your performance and conduct continues to be unsatisfactory, you could be processed for separation under Chapter 5-13 or 5-17 AR 635-200.

OTHER INSTRUCTIONS
This form will be destroyed upon: reassignment (other than rehabilitative transfers), separation at ETS, or upon retirement. For separation requirements and notification of loss of benefits/consequences see local directives and AR 635-200.
