Duty Descriptions

Senior Communications Sergeant
Serves as Senior Communications Sergeant for Special Forces Operational Detachment-Alpha; acts as principal adviser to the commander in all matters pertaining to communications; performs, supervises and instructs communications techniques and operations employed in both conventional and unconventional warfare; recruits, organizes, trains, advises, and supervises personnel and organizations up to Battalion level; responsible for establishing, securing and maintaining communications during operations; responsible for cryptographic materials.


Communications Sergeant
Provides tactical communications support during the full range of special operations missions; coordinates with internal and external partners to determine equipment requirements and submits necessary frequency and satellite access requests; obtains and stores classified COMSEC; maintains and operates HF, VHF, UHF, and satellite radios; trains partner forces in the installation and operation of secure communications equipment; monitors and reports jamming or intrusion; participates in hotwashes and after action reviews.


Communications Liaison
Performs duties as a communications liaison with the Afghan National Army in support of train, advise, and assist mission; maintains and troubleshoots Signal Support Systems and terminal devices, to include radio, wire, and battlefield automated systems; provides technical assistance and unit level training on communication with user owned and operated signal equipment; prepares maintenance and supply requests for unit level signal support; operates and performs PMCS on assigned radios and associated equipment and generators.
