Meritorious service while serving as a BOSS representative in the Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers program and holding the Vice President (VP) position. Sergeant Young always remained professional and responsible and advanced the mission of the BOSS program by enhancing the morale and welfare of single Soldiers, increasing retention, and sustaining combat readiness. In addition, as VP, he served as the secondary point of coordination for the Garrison BOSS program and performed all duties of the BOSS President in his absence. He sat on and chaired a variety of committees and meetings, served as a representative for the single Soldier on a number of committees on their installation, and performed all other duties and responsibilities required of the BOSS President. Finally, he revised and modernized the BOSS SOP, the BOSS program handbook, and submitted changes for AR 215-1. The outstandng achievements of Sergeant Young reflect credit upon himself, the Garrison and the United States Army.
Sergeant Olesom served admirably as President of the Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers programs for the last 24 months. She was responsible for the morale and well being of approximately 9,000 Single Soldiers on the Fort Drum installation. Sergeant Olesom played a key role in organizing volunteer opportunities for Fort Drum's soldiers, and under her direction, the BOSS program's Single Soldiers logged more than 2,500 volunteer hours. Additionally, she was instrumental in spearheading the BOSS Mountain Mudder, which was one of the biggest BOSS events on Fort Drum for the year 2022. Due to her tireless efforts, over 800 people from around the installation attended and benefited from her work. The distinctive accomplishments of Sergeant Olesom reflect great credit upon herself, the Fort Drum BOSS Program and the United States Army.
During his time as Garrison BOSS Event Coordinator, the outstanding professional skill, leadership, and ceaseless efforts of Sergeant Carter, resulted in major contributions to the effectiveness and success of coordinating the BOSS summer whitewater rafting event, resulted in over 70 Soldiers participating in the largest event in over 10 years. In addition, Sergeant Carter optimized available resources to provide a location for the BOSS Council Meetings. His actions increased not only attendance, but participation in city-wide volunteer events, resulting in being publicly recognized by the Mayor of Lawton, Oklahoma.
