2LT Brody Forbes demonstrated exceptional leadership as the Illinois Fatality Search and Recovery Team (FSRT) OIC during the 25-30 March 2025 External Evaluation, a joint Army and Air National Guard exercise in Sparta, Illinois. Leading 11 personnel, he expertly managed the sensitive recovery of simulated remains in a CBRN environment. His effective coordination with the Illinois CERFP ensured dignified and timely recovery while maintaining meticulous documentation and chain of custody, demonstrating utmost respect. LT Forbes proactively overcame multiple logistical challenges, equipping his team for success in an austere environment. His innovative RFI procedures resulted in a remarkable 45-minute operational readiness status, the fastest of all 27 FSRTs evaluated nationwide. Furthermore, his effective use of the NCR EIS enhanced command and control resulted in the team's recognition as a top-performing FSRT, achieving the highest exercise rating. His performance significantly benefited the Illinois CERFP and reflects great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
