MEMORANDUM FOR: Officer Candidate School Selection Board
SUBJECT: Recommendation for SGT Alix Refuse
It is my privilege to recommend Sergeant (SGT) Alix Refuse for selection to attend Officer Candidate School. In my time as his commander, I have observed the qualities and leadership presence that set him apart from his peers and make him an exceptional candidate for a commission in the United States Army.
SGT Refuse is a leader who earns trust and respect through consistent example, sound judgment, and genuine investment in the success of others. He leads not simply by giving direction, but by inspiring confidence in those around him, fostering a climate of professionalism, accountability, and mutual respect.
His greatest strength is his ability to develop people. SGT Refuse identifies potential in others and commits himself to bringing out the best in them, whether by preparing Soldiers for promotion boards, mentoring them through challenges, or setting a standard that motivates them to excel. His Soldiers respond with loyalty and dedication because they know their leader is fully invested in their growth.
SGT Refuse also demonstrates the adaptability, critical thinking, and calm decisiveness that the Army demands from its officers. He approaches challenges with a solutions-focused mindset, anticipates obstacles, and executes plans that achieve results without compromising the welfare of his Soldiers.
The Army needs officers who can inspire action, uphold the highest standards, and lead with vision as well as competence. SGT Refuse is such a leader. His commitment to service, strength of character, and proven ability to influence and unite others make him uniquely qualified to serve as a commissioned officer.
Without reservation, I strongly recommend SGT Alix Refuse for Officer Candidate School. I have full confidence that he will meet the demands of OCS and serve with distinction as a leader in the United States Army.
