MEMORANDUM OF INSTRUCTION
SUBJECT: Memorandum of Instruction (MOI) - Barracks Cleaning Procedures for Stairs and Common Areas
1. Will be effective 13 July 2026.
2. Soldiers will be required to follow the schedule below which includes sweeping and mopping the floors outside their room and their designated part of the stairwell.
3. Sweeping: Sweep all steps and landings, starting from the top floor and working down to the ground level. Ensure all dirt and dust are removed from the corners and the edges of the steps.
4. Mopping: Mop all steps and landings using hot water and an approved floor cleaning solution. Start from the top floor and work downwards. Wring out the mop frequently to prevent water pooling.
5. Barracks Manager / NCOIC: Responsible for enforcing the standards outlined in this MOI, managing the daily cleaning roster, and ensuring adequate cleaning supplies are available.
6. Service Members: Responsible for executing assigned cleaning details to standard and immediately reporting any maintenance issues or supply shortages to their chain of command.
7. SAFETY: Personnel must use appropriate personal protective equipment (e.g., gloves) when handling cleaning chemicals. Never mix different cleaning solutions. Ensure proper ventilation when using strong chemicals.
8. ACCOUNTABILITY: Failure to maintain the barracks stack (stairwells and associated common areas) to the standards established in this MOI will result in immediate intervention. If cleaning details fail to execute their assigned duties or if the area fails routine inspection, the responsible service members' Chain of Command and the First Sergeant (1SG) will be notified immediately to address the deficiency.
