Request to Reinstate Security Clearance

[DATE]

To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing to address the concerns raised in relation to my security clearance, specifically regarding the financial challenges my family and I encountered upon Permanent Change of Station (PCS) to Sheppard Air Force Base in 2020, during the unprecedented global pandemic. The financial pressures we faced were significant, yet, I believe the measures we've taken to resolve these issues demonstrate our commitment to financial responsibility and stability.

Background Circumstances:

Upon receiving orders to PCS to Sheppard AFB in 2020, my family was faced with immediate and unforeseen financial strain. This period coincided with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to widespread economic instability. Prior to this, we had purchased a new home, not anticipating a sudden move. The need to PCS necessitated renting out this property, a decision that, while prudent, introduced its own set of challenges.

The cumulative effect of relocating, coupled with the pandemic's economic impact, significantly strained our finances. We encountered unexpected costs and disruptions, leading to a situation where our outgoings temporarily exceeded our income.

Proactive Measures and Resolution:

Recognizing the seriousness of our financial situation, my wife and I took decisive steps to address it:

Enrollment in National Debt Relief Program: In November 2022, we made the difficult decision to enter the National Debt Relief (NDR) program. This was not a decision we took lightly but one that was necessary under the circumstances. Our total debt amounted to $53,869 across 9 accounts. To date, we have successfully settled 8 accounts, with 7 fully paid off and closed. We continue to work with NDR to resolve the remaining account.

Financial Budgeting and Counseling: We sought guidance from financial counseling services, including sessions with Mike Brown at the Airman Family Readiness Center. This has helped us to develop and adhere to a strict budget, ensuring our financial responsibilities are met and future risks are minimized.

Resolution of Housing and Vehicle Debts: The challenges of managing two properties and two car payments were significant. However, after two unsuccessful attempts, we sold our primary residence in October 2023. This sale allowed us to catch up on outstanding bills and even pay off one of our vehicles, significantly improving our financial standing.

Current Status and Future Directions:

Our journey through the NDR program is nearing completion, and we are actively working towards full financial recovery. The steps we have taken demonstrate not just a willingness but a commitment to resolving our financial difficulties. Our situation has stabilized, and we are more financially secure now than before this challenge began.

Conclusion:

I respectfully request that my proactive measures, responsible actions, and the progress made towards financial stability be taken into consideration in the review of my security clearance. The challenges we faced were unforeseen and, in many ways, a reflection of the broader impacts of the global pandemic. Our response to these challenges reflects our resilience, responsibility, and dedication to upholding the standards expected of us.

Thank you for considering my circumstances in your decision-making process.
