Request Retention Consideration
Under Army Body Composition Program (ABCP)

MEMORANDUM FOR RECORD

SUBJECT: Request for Retention Consideration Under Army Body Composition Program (ABCP)

1. I respectfully submit this memorandum to request consideration for retention in the United States Army while I work to meet the standards outlined under the Army Body Composition Program.

2. I take full responsibility for failing to meet Army body composition standards. I understand the importance of maintaining readiness and discipline as a Soldier, and I acknowledge that I fell short of those expectations.

3. Over the past several months, I have faced challenges that contributed to my current situation. When I originally transitioned over here in July of 2025, I began the next chapter of my life which was living on my own alongside my wife, which was a stressful situation, in addition to applying for housing, buying furniture, and buying a POV while beginning my job here at Desmond Doss which I found to be minimally physically demanding at the time. I did not understand the importance of or know how to manage or balance my health in the beginning and gained quite a bit of weight, weighing in around 225 pounds at the beginning of October. But now, after living and working here in Hawaii/ Desmond Doss over 8 months, I've learned and managed to maintain my physique and health and now weigh 184 pounds as of April, 2026.

4. Despite these setbacks, I have taken immediate corrective action. Since being enrolled in ABCP, I have:

o Maintained a structured workout plan consisting of strength training and cardiovascular exercise six days a week.

o Improved my nutrition by tracking calories/macros and following healthier eating habits.

o Lost approximately 41 pounds and reduced my waist measurement by 09 inches, demonstrating measurable progress.

o Remained committed to performing my military duties to the best of my ability, increasing my AFT score from a 398 to a now 436.

5. I respectfully ask that my leadership consider my progress and potential rather than separating me at this time. I am fully committed to continuing my improvement and meeting Army standards. I believe I still have value to contribute to the Army, my unit, and my fellow Soldiers.

6. Serving in the Army has provided me with purpose, discipline, and opportunities for growth. I take pride in wearing the uniform and want the opportunity to continue serving honorably. Separation at this time would prevent me from demonstrating the progress I am actively making.

7. I respectfully request the opportunity to remain in service and continue proving that I can meet and maintain Army standards.

Respectfully,
[PFC XXXXX, XXXXXXX XXXXXXX]
