Electronic Warfare Specialist

While serving as an RTO for Task Force China during OIF and New Dawn, SPC Nielson monitored radio traffic, blue force tracker & mIRC transmissions for over 200 combat and logistics patrols. He distinguished himself by ensuring that maneuver forces had timely and accurate information on insurgent activities in the Battalion Area of Responsibility, contributing to a more stable Iraqi Government.

While assigned as a Gun Truck Commander during Delta's Company's crew gunnery, SPC Nielson's tactical and technical expertise was demonstrated by his crew qualifing in the company with a score of 958 points out of a possible 1,000. His abilities to work as a member of a team was vital to the crew's success and set the example for other crews to follow.

SPC NIELSON WAS THE PLATOON CREW MASTER GUNNER; RESPONSIBLE FOR EQUIPMENT IN EXCESS OF $1.1M TO INCLUDE MOUNTED AND DISMOUNTED ELECTRONIC WARFARE SYSTEMS (EWS). SUPERVISED THE MAINTENANCE OF EWO SYSTEMS TO FACILITATE MOUNTED AND DISMOUNTED MISSIONS LEADING TO 100% OPERATIONAL READINESS FOR EWS.

-Supervises the operation and maintenance of 42 Counter Radio Controlled IED Electronic Warfare (CREW) Systems utilizing test equipment and computer systems with a total value of over $1.75million.

-Oversees proper PMCS and training on CREW Systems throughout HHT RTS.

-Ensures all devices are updated with current firmware and threat loads as updates are released.

-Reviews and remains current on intelligence reports relating to the CREW/C-IED mission.




Continuously volunteered for and started tasks without needing direction from senior enlisted. Represented the 1136th in both a professional manner and appearance. Successfully completed Combat Life Saver certification. Highly motivated with admirable leadership skills. Worked after hours on multiple details without compensation.
