Counseling on Personal Appearance

Purpose of Counseling:

On 26 MAY 2026, during pre-inspection, I SGT ------, conducted a personal appearance inspection of you, SPC ------. During this inspection, you were found to be in violation of Army Regulation 670-1 (Wear and Appearance of Army Uniforms and Insignia) in multiple areas. This counseling serves as a formal record of those violations and documents the corrective actions required of you going forward.

Key Points Discussion:

You were in violation of multiple standards required by AR 670-1: failure to meet proper hygiene and grooming standards and failure to maintain a presentable uniform. Below are the key points of this counseling discussing which standards you were in violation of.

Violation 1 - Unauthorized Hairstyle (AR 670-1, Para 3-2):
Your hair did not meet Army grooming standards. Specifically, hair was not tapered around the ears and sides. AR 670-1, Para 3-2 states that male Soldiers' hair must be neatly groomed, tapered on the sides and back, and must not exceed two inches in bulk. This standard was not met.

Violation 2 - Unauthorized Mustache (AR 670-1, Para 3-2b):
Your mustache was found to be out of regulation. Specifically, your mustache extended past the corners of the mouth. IAW AR 670-1, Para 3-2b, mustaches are permitted; however, they must be neatly trimmed, tapered, and cannot extend below the upper lip or past the corners of the mouth. Your mustache did not conform to these standards.

Violation 3 - Unserviceable Boots (AR 670-1, Para 1-7 / Para 15-2):
Your Army Combat Boots were found to be in an unserviceable condition. Specifically, your left combat boot had two holes visible on the toe box. IAW AR 670-1, Para 1-7 and Para 15-2, all items of clothing and equipment must be serviceable and presentable at all times. Unserviceable items reflect poorly on you, your unit, and the United States Army.

Plan of action :

You must arrive at work clean shaven every day. You will be inspected daily until it is apparent to me and the other NCOs and leaders on our team that you can adhere to the proper standards of AR 670-1. Upon arrival to duty or formation, I SGT ------, will inspect you daily prior to duty/formation. Further failures to meet standards will result in non-recommendation for the promotion board and possibly more serious consequences.
