Personal Hygiene/Uniform Counseling

PURPOSE OF COUNSELING

Event-oriented Counseling for Personal Hygiene

SUMMARY OF COUNSELING

While occupying government quarters or working in close or confined spaces, it is everyone's responsibility to maintain proper personal hygiene IAW TC 4-02.3, Field Hygiene and Sanitation and AR 670-1, Section 3-2.d. Hygiene and Body Grooming.

Personal hygiene includes standards for fingernails, hair, body, and clothes and uniforms.

This counseling concerns standards for laundering clothes and uniforms. I've been made aware that, while you are at work, your uniforms emit a strong odor, even when you're not wearing the blouse, and the smell lingers in the office's chairs and carpets.

Uniforms must be laundered once a week or more often if needed. If you are laundering your uniforms regularly, the cause may be in the method of laundering.

PLAN OF ACTION

I will review the method of laundering used and make suggestions for improvement or alternate methods such as professional dry cleaning.

SESSION CLOSING

SGT Young will review his laundry practices and select an option to improve the smell of his uniforms and avoid offending his peers.

ASSESSMENT OF THE PLAN OF ACTION

SPC Smith's laundry was dried in the sun on a clothesline and that appeared to be the cause of the odor. He now drys his laundry at a laundromat and the odor has disappeared.
