Drill Sergeant Duty Descriptions

CBRN AIT Drill Sergeant
Performs duties as a Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Advanced Individual Training (AIT) Drill Sergeant in one of only two CBRN AIT companies in the Army; responsible for the discipline, morale, health and welfare of 120 Soldiers during a ten week training cycle; serves as a role model and leads Soldiers through the Soldierization process; provides instruction and training on Army Values, Physical Readiness Training, and Drill and Ceremony; reinforces 74D 10-level tasks training; inspects facilities and Soldiers to ensure compliance with regulations; conducts performance counseling and mentorship.


00G3X Drill Sergeant
Performs duties as a Drill Sergeant in a Basic Combat Training Platoon consisting of up to 60 Initial Entry Training Soldiers each 10 week cycle; skillfully executes the mission of transforming civilians into competent and confident Soldiers; maintains the highest standards while teaching the basics of Soldiering; assists in preparing, executing, and assessing rifle marksmanship training, combat fitness training and common tasks skills training; develops and maintains discipline and ensures the health and personal well being of all assigned Soldiers; assists in the accountability of over $200,000 of equipment.


Drill Sergeant Candidate
Participates in the Drill Sergeant Preparatory Course; completes required modules for qualification to attend Drill Sergeant School. Works closely with pre-basic training soldiers instructing required modules and provides training with emphasis on drill and ceremony, customs and courtesies, physical fitness, basic rifle marksmanship, military discipline and bearing and Army Values; provides support to local Army Reserves and ROTC units assisting with basic rifle marksmanship, land navigation, administration of APFT, and other basic combat training tasks.


Drill Sergeant in a Basic Combat Training (BCT) company
Serves as a Drill Sergeant in a Basic Combat Training (BCT) company; responsible for individual training, supervision, and development of 40-60 Initial Entry Training Soldiers per nine week cycle; responsible for ensuring that standards are met to provide the U.S. Army with disciplined, physically and morally fit Soldiers, competent in warrior core tasks, who can fight and win regardless of MOS; coordinates and integrates logistics, maintenance, and safety in all platoon operations.


Drill Sergeant: MOS 11B
Responsible for the training of 60 Infantry Soldiers in all phases of training; supports the Infantry and OSUT POI and conducts classes on a variety of Infantry subjects; ensures each assigned Soldier's training record is properly maintained; conducts situational training exercises during a seven day FTX; assists in the execution of all training; responsible for the accountability and maintenance of equipment valued in excess of $75,000.


Drill Sergeant
Drill Sergeant responsible for training 1,000 Initial Entry Training (IET) Soldiers annually in the areas of Physical Fitness, Basic Rifle Marksmanship (BRM), Drill and Ceremony, and all general subjects of Basic Combat Training (BCT); responsible for indoctrinating Soldiers in the fundamentals of military life, Army Core Values, esprit de corps, leadership, military bearing, customs and courtesies; Serves as Squad Leader in BCT Company; advises the Platoon Sergeant on unit matters and performance of subordinate cadre and accounts for $100,000 of equipment.


Drill Sergeant
Conducts initial entry training for newly enlisted personnel; instructs and assists in the training of basic combat tasks to recruits; develops recruits in discipline, physical fitness, military bearing, personal hygiene, first aid, pride in military and country; trains recruits in drill and ceremonies, basic rifle marksmanship and maintenance of assigned equipment; provides instruction on military history, customs, courtesies and military regulations; exemplifies the Warrior Ethos, the Army Values, and demonstrates an example for all soldiers to follow.




Senior Drill Sergeant

Senior Drill Sergeant
Performs duties as Senior Drill Sergeant in a Basic Combat Training Company; trains over 60 Initial Entry Soldiers in a 10-week cycle; responsible for the accountability, professional development, supervision, and evaluation of 3 Drill Sergeants; responsible for the professional development and mentoring of 9 junior Drill Sergeants; supervises and initiates instructions to Initial Entry Soldiers in all subjects required to complete Basic Combat Training; responsible for the discipline, morale and training of a platoon; assists the First Sergeant and Commander in preparation and conduct of all training; accountable for $150K of equipment.


Senior Drill Sergeant
Serves as Senior Drill Sergeant in a Basic Combat Training Brigade, responsible for the accountability, supervision, professional development, and evaluation of two Drill Sergeants; resposible for the training of 360 Initial Entry Training Soldiers per year, as well as accountability, serviceability of individual and organizational equipment valued in excess of $125,000; responsible for instilling discipline, enforcing the Army Values and military standards while providing leadership, guidance and counseling for Drill Sergeants and IET Soldiers; ensures all TRADOC POI training guidelines are met and all Soldiers meet the Army Standards.


Senior Drill Sergeant/11B4X
Responsible for the mentoring of two Drill Sergeants and the training of 60 Infantry Soldiers in all phases of training; supports the Infantry OSUT POI and conducts classes on a variety of Infantry subjects; ensures each assigned Soldier's individual training record is properly maintained; conducts situational training exercises during a seven day FTX; plans and assists in the execution of all training; responsible for the accountability and maintenance of equipment valued in excess of $50,000.




First Sergeant

First Sergeant 00G4M (DRILL SERGEANT COMPANY)
First Sergeant for a basic training company consisting of 24 Soldiers, including 12 Drill Sergeants, Drill Sergeant Candidates, Training NCO and 2 Supply Sergeants; responsible for executing established policies and standards pertaining to the training, mentoring, disciplining, health, welfare and physical fitness of all Soldiers, including monitoring Drill Sergeant competence in all areas of basic Soldiering skills; assists and advises the Commander and staff on all matters pertaining to enlisted Soldiers and their families; accompanies the Commander on inspections, visits, at ceremonies and holds formations.
